As we head into the busy spring season, we want to keep you informed about an upcoming administrative update regarding your athlete's paperwork. Per the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) guidelines, an updated athletic physical form doesn’t expire until April 1st of the following year. This means that if a physical is dated on or after April 1, 2025, it is valid until April 1, 2026. Because of this, you may see that your student’s current Healthy Roster Documents are scheduled to expire soon.
We know that seeing an "expired" notification can be stressful, so we want to be absolutely clear: This expiration does NOT make your athlete ineligible for their current spring sport. If your student is currently participating in a sport, they are fully cleared to finish out their season without interruption.
💫Why is the system resetting on April 1st?
This automatic expiration is a necessary administrative step to rollover our system and begin preparing for the upcoming athletic seasons. Resetting the Healthy Roster profiles allows us to clear the way for:
▪️The 2026/2027 School Year: Ensuring all physicals and waivers are up-to-date for fall sports.
▪️Summer Activities: Processing new and returning athletes for summer workouts, padded camps, and pre-season conditioning starting in June.
▪️Spring Cheer Tryouts: Processing athletes for the upcoming cheer season.
▪️Varsity Spring Football: Clearing athletes for padded spring football practices.
💫What do you need to do?
▪️For current spring athletes: No immediate action is required to finish your current season.
▪️For athletes participating in summer activities, 26/27 sports, Spring Cheer, or Spring Football: You will need to upload new, updated NMAA physical forms and sign the required 2026-2027 documents in Healthy Roster prior to participating in those specific upcoming activities, tryouts, or practices.

So many great things are happening across our district.

We need the entire #Alamogordo community to jump into the fun! Let's spread kindness in Alamogordo! Chalk Your Walk on February 20th! 💓🖍️

To streamline our Out-Of-Zone (OOZ) process for returning students and to provide our families with more peace of mind, we have replaced the full annual application with a simplified Letter of Intent. 📝
📱For current OOZ students in grades K–4, 6, and 7, who have been pre-approved, parents/guardians will receive a Letter of Intent via the guardian's email listed in PowerSchool beginning today. If you expect a letter and don't receive one this week, please call Let's Talk! 575-812-8573 starting Tuesday, February 17. 💻
💫Here are a few exceptions:
▪️Students transitioning to Middle School: Please note that all current 5th-grade students moving to 6th grade next year must complete a new Out-of-Zone application if they are requesting an OOZ school.
▪️All new students to APS and incoming 6th graders will complete the OOZ application.
▪️If you are returning to APS but have not previously completed an OOZ application, you will complete a new application as well.
✨The application window for new requests will open on March 2nd.✨

We want to remind drivers of the importance of using caution as you drive through school zones and encounter 🚌 school buses in the mornings and afternoons. Please obey school zones' speed limits, and come to a COMPLETE STOP while the bus stop signal is out, and only proceed driving after the STOP signal is REMOVED by the bus driver. 🚌
Thank you for helping us keep our students safe.

Tomorrow is Pack the Bus Day!
Did you know? 🚌On the 80th & 120th day of school, APS captures a snapshot of the bus ridership to report to NMPED. The information collected on this day is very important and impacts the funding our district receives for transportation. Transportation funding not only supports students' daily rides to and from school, it can also support in-district school field trips.
🚌Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 11th, if your child is a bus rider, please help us provide an accurate count by having them ride the bus. 🚌
